1.Welcome to the 7th European Orienteering Championships in Ventspils, Latvia

The Organizing Committee, the organizing orienteering clubs and the Latvian Orienteering Federation are pleased to welcome all friends of orienteering to the European Orienteering Championships.

5. Terrain Description

Long distance, Middle distance, Relay

Mostly coniferous (pine tree) forest. The terrain areas have a lot of contour details, small and middle dune forms. The difference between highest and lowest points of the terrain is about 25m. The runnability is mostly good; some small areas are with middle runnability.

Middle distance terrain area has a lot of swamps.

Long distance and relay terrain areas have some open dune parts.

All areas have developed network of paths and forest roads. Visibility is mostly good.

Sprint

Sprint distance course will take place in town parks, streets, suburban dune areas and beach.

6. Training Opportunities

Please consult for updated information about the official training opportunities - Secretary General /info@eoc2008.lv/. From 2006 it is possible to train in the different terrains similar to EuOC 2008.

8. Event Centre and Accommodation

The Event Centre will be situated right in the heart of Ventspils. All EuOC participants will be accommodated in hotels. Complete information will be available in Bulletin 2. For further information please contact the organizers by e-mail: info@eoc2008.lv; lof@orient.lv.

9. Anti-doping

Let us keep our sport and the EuOC 2008 free of doping! We, the organizers, are fully committed to support the endeavours of the anti-doping authorities with highest priority. We will also keep the participants, through their member federations, informed about the current developments of the applicable anti-doping laws and regulations in Latvia.
