Middle final
A great day for Finland! The Finnish girls took all the three medals in women's class and Pasi Ikonen was the 3rd in men's class in the middle distance final today in Jaunupe.
It was again very technical race as even the winners Heli Jukkola (FIN) and Thierry Gueorgiou (FRA) missed more than as minute, however it was good enough to win the European champion title.
The president of Latvia Valdis Zatlers was present today in the competition area. He awarded the medals to the winners and in his speech he said that each of us orienteers know that orienteering is the best of all sports.
Thierry Gueorgiou (FRA) once again showed that he is the best middle distance runner of all winning his third European title in the middle distance. Today was also the first medal for the home nation, as Martins Sirmais form Latvia won the silver medal, the same as it was two years ago in Estonia.
